Sounds like another thing to do to the truck this weekend. I've been putting it off, not sure if I should do it. Truck has 193,xxx miles and I got it at 15x,xxx miles, never changed the tranny fluid. It shudders sometimes when shifting to overdrive, so I figured it was about time to consider the fluid/filter change.

great...after starting this thread I went and talked to a tranny guy with about a hundred years experience and he told me that as far as internal parts go the e4od uses mostly the same parts as the c6, except for added od and electronic controls, says he swapped out lots of them for c6's but could never figure out why anyone in thier right mind would want to
I'm an obsessive changer of everything. When I sell a car the oil looks like new. I never have much trouble to speak of and I'm sure that's the reason. When you think about it the only thing these things run on are fluids, so the cleaner and fresher the better. I never keep tires past two years either, the only thing between me and the road is those tires, so away they go.
my e4od had about 160k miles on it when I had it rebuilt. I put a shift kit in it a little better than stock torque converter. Amsoil trans fluid and filter and have had no problems with it. I know it will kick you in the pants when your standing in it hard. lots of fun!!
My truck is a 93 with over 183K on the clock and aside from the front pump seal going out in the transmission when I got it, I haven't had much of a problem with my E4OD. It did have a minor torque converter shudder, but that got corrected with some friction modifier. I'm getting ready to put a shift kit into it soon.
I'll take the 351/E4OD combo over the 302/AOD combo I used to have any day. I'm over 160k on the clock now with this one (don't know if either has been rebuilt, but I don't think so), and it's night and day compared to the 302/AOD that got rebuilt at 93k/103k, respectively, and was a heap of junk when the engine went again at 145k and I got rid of the truck. Not that my 351 doesn't need any attention right now, but it's still running strong. It's just too dang cold out right now, truck doesn't fit in the garage, and funds are low right now anyway until work picks back up some.
I happen to LIKE e-trannies because they can (sometimes) let you know there's a small problem before it becomes a catastrophic one. That, and the computer helps to protect the tranny from idiots.
