check my previous posts...around a year ago. basically there is no option for us with pre-made after market stuff (replacement). it would have to be custom made and I am sure in the thousands of $$$$$ range. if there was an option for under $1000 to give me 65+ gallons I would seriously consider it. I haven't checked for a year or more but since the Ex is not a current production model I seriously doubt there is an affordable option for us.
I have not explored an extra tank, not sure where you would put it but 5-10 gallons more is not worth the trouble to me, 20+ ok.
would a tank from a SD (they have the flank tanks along the framerail) work? If you could find one for a SWB regular cab, it might fit, but i dunno for sure.
I have done no research on this because I don't see a need for a larger tank.
But you can get tanks for inside the rear cargo area (behind the 3rd seat) they are typically used for VO fuels but you might be able to make something like this work.
44 gallons.......and no its never enough. even w/ my psd getting 18-19mpg on the hwy ( 22mpg+ if I slow down) a 700+ mile range is great but think of a 1200+ mile range.........think towing a trailer on a long trip, hurricanes in south FL, think huricane Katrina, I can think of 20 more reasons that more fuel is better. yes 44 gallons is great but more is always better!
This is obviously an exagerations since you do currently have 44 gallons and do drive the truck right?

There are plenty of reasons why more is not better including extra weight, more likely hood for condensation and particulate in the tank, less room in the vehicle (depending on the tank), extra stress on the vehicle due to the weight (extra cost of mantenance of breaks, joints, suspension components), longer stopping distance, less gas mileage..... Should i keep going

Look, I'm not trying to start a pissing contest. your first coment I just don't understand........the tank is 44 gallons, my opinion is that you can never have too much fuel (within reason, I'm talking and extra 15-20 gallons not an extra 120 gallons) period, it my opinion.
and as far as extra stress on the entire vehicle, I don't see how an extra 20 gallons or 140lbs will really stress the Ex beyond its capacity. I'm sure there are plenty of people that would love the extra capacity if they had the option.
On top of that we have gotten way off topic, the OP asked if anyone knew of an option for adding more fuel capacity, so if anyone knows a solution to the question please share it with us...
I don't have a second tank, even though I greatly want one. I do however can vouch for the space that is in between the drivers frame rail and driveshaft. I stuffed a 12.5 gallon air tank and twin compressors there so a 20 gallon fuel cell should fit pretty well, as for filling it that is another issue. I was always wondering if you could plumb two flex lines in between the tanks (one on top and one close to the bottom) if it would actually gravity fill and empty. Thats just my thought on the subject.

that would be illegal on a gasser, but on a diesel it might be ok, I'm not sure...
check out transferflow.com they have a link to legal info that might be helpful

That is good to know, not that I have room there anymore for a tank, but for the other members.

I wasn't trying to be an a$$. I posted a solution earlier in the thread, it is the only logical solution I am aware of.
My point for the post was VERY simple. Many people don't think about all of the additional trade off's with having a larger fuel tank, and I thought it a good time post a few of them. Your comments were that 44 gal is "NEVER" enough. Obviously this isn't the case, you would just prefer a longer range (I assume. You said "more is ALWAYS better". Again this is a trade off and for many of us more would not be better.
I have had several vehicles in the past with dual tanks. In my opinion they are a much greater headache than they were ever worth.
Just my opinion, sorry if I pissed anyone off.

Has anyone tried fitting a superduty tank in an X? If they will fit then you could always upgrade to a transfer flow 46 gallon tank, but considering the price you could probably pickup a used 38 gallon tank much cheaper. If it would fit the biggest issue might be filling it.
I wish the SRW and DRW had the same tank the X has in it. Today I filled up the X and it was $135.60 (40 gallons, wife ran her low again). In my area most pumps are pay at the pump and most turn off at $50 or $75 with an atm or credit card. Today it stopped at $75 then I had to swipe the card again. Consider if you added another tank and had to swipe the card as many as three times? Today when filling up it was -3 and I almost left when the machine stopped at $75. 44 gallons is plenty big enough.
If anyone with an excursion has a buddy with an F-250 , it would not be hard to figure out if the gas tank would interchange. I have often thought it would be nice to fill up here in Ga. ,for .20 cents less than most places, then be able to take the camper somewhere within a couple hundred miles and back without the issue of stopping for , or worrying about another fuel stop. If there was not alot of people who wanted extra fuel, there would not be factory vehicles with 2 tanks, or an aftermarket devoted to such. A Junkyard gas tank from a superduty could possibly be very cheap, since junkyards have to remove the tank before sending vehicles to the shredder.I am betting it will fit, or require few modifications to slip it in the frame rails .
