I'll measure mine if i get a chance tomorrow. For sure on Sunday afternoon I'll have time. My pickup is a long box so it has a larger tank than a short box, but I'll look into it.

Lightbulb 24 gallon tank

Golden Fuel systems offers a 24 gallon tank that you install between the frame and drive shaft on the drivers side. I called them up and they will sell it to you for under $700 if memory serves. You use a second fill line in the same cover you have right now. The tank you add becomes primary diesel and the original tank becomes vegi fuel tank. Why not just use their tank and not do the vegi conversion? A couple of electric valves and you are in business.
Read their web page info to get a better understanding.
Go to the bottom and open the dimensions link, good info/pictures.
Hope this helps

That is the cleanest WVO system I have seen. I wouldnt mind setting up my X for WVO, but I have always hated the crued systems everyone has. This one looks quite possible. Might have to look into it further.

BTW I havent measured my SD tank yet as it has been too cold to crawl around in the snow under my pickup.

The crossmembers on the X are different from an F250. The Tank will fit , but you loose a lot of ground clearence.

don't worry you did **** me off. we all have opinions, you, me & everyone else. they are by no means facts, only the way we feal about some topic. we are all here to share ideas and learn!

shadetreetx, I like that WVO tank idea, I might have to give them a call to find out more info.....like what all do you get for $700......if it is just the tank it is a rip-off, but if its turn-key it's not too bad. that of course is my opinion so take it with a grain of salt.

Found tank dimensions for a '85/'86 f250 shortbed of 42 3/8 x 14 3/8 x 11. 16 gallon capacity.
97 model 19 gallon 59 x 12 1/4 x 12 1/2
98 model 30 gallon 66 x 15 x 15

I'm all for more capacity. I can burn a tank every 2 days when business is busy. it gets real old having to fill up every 2 days.

A 44 gallon tank, and let's say I can get 13 mpg at highway speeds towing a trailer, so that's a 572 mile range per tankful. For the life of me, I can not imagine going anywhere in the United States that I couldn't find a gas station at least every 500 miles. Furthermore, when we get to the Mad Max days where somebody will kill you for a pint of gasoline, I don't want 100 gallons in 2 tanks on my Excursion. Just one 44 gallon tank can get you killed 200 times.

I like the extra fuel because it lets me run between cheap fuel stops on long trips and gives me more flexibility with less time wasted fueling up.

I know not everyone wants or need additional fuel, but I had 90 gallons of fuel available in my 97 psd and it was great on long trips.

And lots of times we're not talking about being able to find gasoline, its the time factor. Now , I know you say "it doesn't take that long to fill up!" , but lots of time if you look at total time invested, it can take a significant chunk out of your day. When I'm super busy and burning a tank every two days, I don't want to waste 20-30 minutes getting gas every other day.

Lets say you have to drive a couple of blocks over from where you're at now to get to that gas station thats .10/gallon cheaper, that adds a couple of minutes. Did you get stopped at that stinkin' red light that lasts forever? Now we get to the gas station, its busy cause its one of the cheapest stations in town. Now, I get to wait for a pump, or do I pull right up to a pump but its out of service, so I have to search for another pump? Is the freakin' card swiper thingy working? Do I have to go stand in line for another 10min waiting on the "great customer service worker" to finish their phone call with friend/boyfriend/girlfriend/mom/dad/parole officer to get them to turn the friggin' pump on? Now I'm finally done, I get to wait to pull out of the lot and as I head away, I catch the stinkin' forever redlight again. When I finally get a green, I'm behind that Prius that thinks if they don't accelerate fast and stay at least 20mph under the speed limit, they'll save at least .25 that day on their gas bill, and as I reach under the seat and grab my UZI and start blazing, screaming out the window, "DIE YOU PRIUS DRIVIN' COMMIE BAST#$D!!!!", I think, Gee if I had a bigger gas tank, I could only do this every third or forth day and Mr. Prius would still be alive.....

Anyhow, back to what I was saying (LIGHTS THREE CIGARETTES SIMULTANEOUSLY, PUFFING FURIOUSLY) its not always about how far you can drive on one tank in one day.

All tongue in cheek of course, but theres been several times my quickie gas stop has gone just about exactly like that, and I hate to rinse and repeat every two days.
