The gauges are not receiving power. You probably broke the wire when the switch spun. There is a voltage regulator on the back of the instrument cluster that feeds the fuel, temp, & oil pressure gauges. The wire to the regulator from the ignition switch is blk/ltgrn. There is also a wire of the same color going to the low fuel warning module. Both should have 12v with the igniton on. jd
On my 87 ranger, when we first pulled it out of the woods, we had lost the keys, and hack to hack the ignition cyclinder all apart, and hot wire it. After we nearly destroyed the steering colum we found the keys >.<
But anyways, if you take the cover off the column (should be held on with two screws, you should see the connector that goes into the ignition switch.
You will see two thick yellow wires, and directly below one of the yellow wires will be a black wire. This wire feeds the instrument cluter guages (not lights, jsut the guages), radio, and windshield wipers. Try splicing a connection from one of the yellow wires to the black one, and then try starting the car.
