MAf Sensor install help

MAf Sensor install help
I have a 1999 F250 2wd v10. I replaced the MAF sensor, and then read on this site that I shouldn't have disconnected the battery while doing so. The symptoms are still there. I don't know if it is because I need to reset something or if the MAF wasn't the problem. What should I do?

If I missed it in an earlier post, sorry. If not what are the symptoms? Could be something else. Have you taken it somehwere to have codes checked? If so what are they? You could try disconnecting your battery again for about 15 mins. or so to reset everything, but I don't know if that will solve anything. Let us know more so we can help.

Welcome to FTE!Actually...anytime you work with electrical components it is better to disconnect the negative from the battery. The best way is to also turn on the headlight switch to remove any residual in the PCM computer. After doing so...you must drive 10 highway minutes and then 20 city minutes to have the PCM re-learn the driving conditions.
What lead you towards replacing the MAF sensor in the first place? Did you receive a code?

You are certainly on the right track thinking the MAF sensor was the problem. To eliminate the MAF sensor as a cause...disconnect the sensor, airflow is inferred by using rpm and throttle position instead of reading the MAF sensor. If the lean driveability symptoms go away, the MAF sensor is probably contaminated and should be replaced. If the lean driveability symptoms do not go away the MAF sensor is probably not contaminated.
Next things to check:
1. Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses for leaks and/or cracks, replace if necessary
2. Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure

Thanks! Since I've already replaced the MAF, do I need to disconnect the battery and drive for sometime before I eliminate the MAF as the cause? It actually seemed to get worse after eplacing it but I've only driven slowly around the block
