Smile Engine temp. timers

A short time back there was a thread or at least an exchange of ideas re the timers that keep the engine running after you lock up and walk away until the engine cools to a certain temp. and then it turns the truck off.

I'm not sure what the proper name for those rasquels are but does anyone have a link or two about them?

Will be much appreciated.

I think your talking about a turbo timer. Basically, you turn the truck off at the key but it remains running until the egts get to a certain temp or you can have it on a timer.

I'm not sure who makes them for our trucks. We have one on our cummins with the edge juice. Pretty nice feature. You can set it for 20 min or so. Works well If you run to town and want to leave your truck running and locked.

Also I think now all the remote starter units have that feature that has an adjustable timer for shut down. hit the button remove the key, lock the doors and walk away.

The unit that I'm searching for does not work off of setting a time in seconds or minutes, it has a thermocouple like an EGT gauge and it works off of temp.
The only thing that I didn't like about it was the thermacouple was installed post turbo as rather than returbo. I thought that I bookmarked it but I can't find it.

As far as the oil goes I don't use synthetic oil and my remote is an after market "Viper" Hmmmmm I'll check into Viper and see if they have that option.

As always, thanks for your input.

Just as a note, I live in MA but go to school in NH. I left my truck running (with the doors locked... I have another set of keys) so the turbo could cool off while i was bringing stuff up to my room after a weekend off. When I returned to my truck, there was a cop parked next to my truck. He said, "Did you know there is a law in NH that states you can't leave a vehicle running unattended on public property?" So me being me argued about how the school was private property and that my tuition (a hefty bill) constitutes my right to boarding at the institution and rights to the surrounding property... etc... To make a long story (oh yea this is a long story) shorter, If you live in NH don't leave your truck running and unattended on public property... $200 fine. I still leave it running when I get off the highway. haven't been bothered any more just a heads up

Yes some locales don't allow it even in your own driveway! Roger I put a bulldog starter (cheap one) on my wifes car and it has that option. Your might as well.

Yeah, they are pretty strick up in the NE. Lot of guys put little gassers on their big rigs for heat at night when they are sitting.

IMHO a timer that goes by egts is pretty much worthless. It doesn't take long at all to get it down to 300. Usually under a minute for me. After about 30 min of idleing on a hot summer day the lowest it will get is 250.

NJ also has a law against that. We had some Big Rig drivers get in trouble with that a while back.

Here you can run onboard heating system with #2 dyed fuel.
Some trucks have a aux fuel tank for the heater.
Laws go figure!

Now that makes sense because the heater is not on the road and therefore should not have road taxes applied. It is like a Big Rig with a Reefer with red fuel in it.

I think my whole truck is a heater. Think they will buy that? LOL
