2.3L acceleration issues
I have a 1997 Ranger 2.3L automatic with 144K miles on it. Check engine light on.
Months ago the truck would suddenly start lurching and stumbling while driving . Acted like it was outta gas. It would clear up in a few minutes; sometimes it might last longer. It wouldn’t do this but every once in a while, Until about three weeks ago it started doing it again and this time it wouldn’t go away.
So after reading this informative forum I disconnected the Neg leg on the battery for over 40 minutes and cleaned the MAF filament. BIG improvement! No more stumbling.
However, after a day or so the gas pedal is " unresponsive and dead for the first 30-40 percent of travel distance of the pedal as it is being depressed. (Not every time, but often) I have to "stomp" hard for the truck to begin accelerating. Often times if I’m at a dead stop and try to accelerate in a normal fashion, the engine acts like it is trying to stall, at which time I have to "stomp" on the pedal for it to recover and take off.
I stopped in at a parts store and had them read my codes They are
1. P0102 MaF or Vac A circuit low Imput
2. P1121 control fuel air metering
3. P0443 EVAP emmisions
4. P0172 system too rich bank 1
I am thinking I need a new MAF sensor. Is there more going on?
Any help is appreciated.
