i'm looking to order warn lockouts for my 2001 and was wondering when installed what vaccumm lines at the pump needs blocked off so it dont screw up the heated (defrost mode) plus you guys that have seen or already have aftermarket hubs do they install the same as factory with the big wire clip or do they install different? any pics of the blocked off vaccum lines or your aftermarket hubs would be thankful.
It's really easy. After you pull the circlip off, the stock auto hub slides right out. You'll need the 4 or 6 point spanner socket to tighten the Warn hub. I did this on my son's Explorer and just this last weekend on my truck. Here's a shot of mine.
The six Allen screws hold the cover on. The assembly inside is secured by spiral clips. I plugged the vacuum line up by the brake line. I'll chase them to the pump another time. I plugged the holes in the knuckles with a couple of brass 1/4" NPT plugs.

This is what i did to cap the vacuum lines at both ends...
Once the stock hub comes out, the geared part that meshes with the axle shafts and the hubs goes in first, a circular retaining ring holds it in, and then you use allen screws to hold the **** onto the back.
Like the others said, piece of cake. However, one of my stock hubs had to be "persuaded" to come out. I removed the lock ring but the hub wouldn't budge. I sprayed it with PB blaster and a couple love taps with a rubber mallet.
yep, i bought my premium Warns for like 170 from Clemson 4 wheel center. i guess i could cap off my vaccum lines at the wheels also, is that the only thing that the vacuum is for? is the transfer case controlled electronically and not by vacuum at all? Not to hijack the thread but a month or so ago my wifes vauum pump on the passenger fender well had a leak at a line so i just shoved a screw in it. i assumed the 4x4 did not work since i had the line blocked. is that pump for anything else or just the 4x4? while it was leaking it had very long hard starts. would not quit buzzing.
so i could disconnect the vacuum pump theoretically and all would still be well with the world? if thats the case i sure am glad i have not ordered a new one!!!!!

I don't believe your heater controls will work correctly without the vacuum pump.
Are these the top-of-the-line Warn hubs? I thought they were called "gold cup" or something along with "gold". I'm wanting to spend some Christmas $$ on a set.
