460 police interceptor timing gear set
I talked to the local auto parts store about putting a timing gear set from a police interceptor into my standard 1977 460 block. They said I can not do it because of the engine clearances. Valves and stuff I suppose.
Anybody actually done this, or should this not be done.????

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-May-02 AT 00:06 AM (EST)]I think they fed you a load because they really did not have an answer . You ever know anyone like that, rather make something up, than admit they don't know.
The police interceptor set is nothing more than an older stock timing set that was not retarded from the factory. The factory part for the crank gear was C8SZ-6306-A, which set the timing "straight up". You can use a performance 3-key way timing set in your 77 460 and set it at 0 degree's or "straight up" to get the same effect. I put a double row Comp Cam set in my 79 460 and there was no clearance problems at all. :-)
