my wife is taking self defence training. (i feel it's a good thing for a person to know how to defend themselves if they have to.) so when she said she was interested in learning about self defense,i supported her choice to take the course. she also wants to take some martial arts training too.i think its great! i'm pretty aware of how to take control of a potentially physically violent situation, protect myself, and defuse the physical threat.i was just curious if others think its a good thing for the ladies to be informed on how to defend themselves,or do you see it differently?
I would say that it is a very good idea. Seems like in today's world people get attacked in very public places and sometimes you don't have time to call for help.
i agree with the others lol your butt may be next!! seriously tho tell the wife that the best part of learning self defense is when not to use the stuff.. her swing may be fast but i bet ya it aint faster than a bullet
I think it's a great idea. My wife was interested in Tae Kwon Do so I brought her to a few classes with me. She didn't stay interested for too long, I just don't think she had the desire to learn all the forms and techniques that are required to test for each level. I suppose once the kids are older and want to sign up (I hope) maybe she will too.
I think the health benefits from staying in shape far outweigh the ability to defend yourself. Unless you're a member of a street gang in LA, not too many of us will ever have to defend ourselves.

Very good point - I've always said I take martial arts so I DON'T have to fight.
But it's certainly nice to know that if needed I can defend myself. Fact is I
haven't been in a fight since the seventh grade and don't expect I'll be in one
The best way I've found to defend myself is as soon as I'm confronted, I take off all of my clothes and start running around...Works every time because nobody wants to mess with a crazy naked guy, and you don't really have to do anything extra to make them think you're crazy because as soon as you strip down, they'll know (that's not something a sane person would do)...
Of course I don't know how well that technique would work for women...
i can see it now "hunny wash them dishes and take out the trash"..."yeah yeah i will in a little bit".....forward 5 minutes later, you see yourself lying on the ground, and your wife puttin you in a triangle choke hold and an arm bar to go with it.

You could always sign her up for Scottish Martial Arts. It's called "Feh Cue".
All martial arts systems have something good to offer. The same can't be said for all martial arts schools. Check out a variety of the schools in your area, observe a few classes and talk to the students and instructors. Find the one that fits you best and where you feel comfortable. I met my wife at the school where I train.
