Today my excursion was subjected to speeds of 65-70mph while in 4hi. There was a couple of loud bangs from the front end. At this time someone (not me) took it out of 4hi. I was wondering how bad this could be. When my wife got home I tested the 4 wheel drive to make sure it engages, there is a slight noise when it engages. Is this a good time to get new gears? Since we pull a 11000 pound TT and would like to run stock tires in the winter and 35s in the rest of time. What would be a good gear ratio. Thanks for the help.

Expuller i feel you are asking two different questions. One is the clunk andf another is gears. The clunk may not be gears you will need to look into that. As for gears and you are running 35's while pulling then you could bump your self up to the 410. I think 433 would be a slight over kill when you were not pulling and would not be necessary if you are just driving around and not offroad or soemthing else. Let us know what you come up with in regards to the clunk. I have driven my truck in 4hi at 60 no problem. Now 70 maybe pushing i am not sure. Good luck.
Pulling 11K pounds with stock tires, I recommend 4.30s
Empty with 35s i recommend 4.30s
pulling 11K with 35s, you will want 4.56s or 4.88s
Depends how often you tow heavy loads or how often you want to shap tires. 4.30 will work best as all over gears, but towing heavy you will want to have more gears or smaller tires. I have 3.73 and 35s and am good up to about 4-5kpounds towing as long as I stay above 70mph.
