2001 F-550 7.3 498,640 miles. You crank it when cold and it hardly starts(we're talking 50 degrees only). If you can get it to catch it will run briefly and then die. I've always done excellent maint on it oil and filter changes every 3000 miles, fuel filter changes every 5000 miles. The dealer said it needed a valve on the bottom of the oil pump pick relplaced, 900.00 bucks still does the same thing. All the glow plugs have been tested ok, the wiring harness is new, the injectors all test good. Still the same problem, using the thinner Rotella and no change. Sometimes if I crank too hard, the bypass valve on the oil filter block dumps oil. Anyone have any suggestions, Comments, or have experiences like this. I've got a 96 7.3 with 1,178,000 miles and never had any problem like this with it.

WOW...what a great story to have two VERY high mileage 7.3L PSD trucks!
Have you checked the CPS (Camshaft Position Sensor)? This is actually a very common issue with the 7.3L PSD...and FORD has made a new and improved version (finally!)...and done a Recall too.
