I myself prefer Nike. I am now wearing of Triax+10's. Do 4 plus miles a day and feet are happy. That is saying something for a 280lb guy. I tried New Balance but they just did not fit me or provide the level of comfort that the Nikes do.
new balance are great that's all our family buy. I have flat feet problems and I found they are great for my feet they are the most comfy shoe i ever bought. give them and try for yourself to see. let us know what kind yo end up buying ok.
New Balance or Asics. I also recommend North Face hiking boots. I use them when we go to Disneyland. 12 miles per day and feet do not hurt at all.
Like other have said do not cheap out on them. I workout on a treadmill four five miles per day and can go about three to four months on the more expensive ones vs. two months on the cheaps. Remember the cheap comes out expensive at the end.
I spend ten hours a day on concrete in my Timberland Pro Ti boots....... But steeltoes aren't for walking usually.
NB is a good brand, so is Reebok, but I would trust a mid-priced shoe from a low price manufacturer before I trust a low-price or even mid-price shoe from a high-price manufacturer.
Whatever you do get, make sure your feet can breath. That's the reason I have gotten the Timberlands for four years straight now- my feet stay dry. I have tried tons of other steel toe and soft toe boots in that same price range, and after a couple hours my feet are soaked even if I've just been sitting around.
It turns out that most of the problem was due to my feet swelling after an hour or so, Not sure if there is some underlying problem behind that or not but wearing my shoes really loose seems to have corrected it for now. I even brought my reebok walking shoes back out of retirement and they're great.
i always wore nikes / addiuas When I was a kid, then I started buying NB's.... Now Thats All I buy... I can never seem to find ones i like, so the last time i found something i liked, i bought 3 pairs andtossed 2 in the closet
New Balance is good if you have a wider foot. I have a narrower foot, with high arches, and I slightly overpronate. The shoes that have been the best for me are the Brooks Adrenaline. My shin splints completely went away after running in these shoes. I had previously been running in Nike Shox.

Good point... I buy my running shoes 1.5 sizes bigger than my normal shoe size for just that reason.
