Does anybody know of anyone who can remove the speed governor from my ECU? I know it can be done, just where? Please, no lectures about speeding/racing etc., that is not my intent. Thanx!
You can't remove the speed governer...but you can jack it up really really high. Anyone with an OBD-2 programmer that works with the Ranger can do it. The dealer can do it, but yeah, see how that goes lol.
Speeding and racing aside, if you're getting it for a real purpose, sometimes dealers can be helpful. One of my cousins is a firefighter, got the whole lights and siren kit on his truck, the Chevy dealership agreed to up the limit on his truck if he agreed the void the rest of his warranty, which he did.
Any decent speed shop in your area could do it. The one in the down I used to live in did a custom program for the Silverado after we put the blower on it for $100 plus dyno runs.
While I'm all for disabling the speed limiter...I don't think I'd dare touch with the rev limiter on a stock engine...it's there for a reason. (Then again...after the Ranger's 4.0L rarely being above 4500...it's weird for me to watch the 4.0L SOHC in the Explorer rev all the way to six before shifting.)
Well, it doesn't make much sense to disable the speed limiter and not the rev limiter as the rev limiter can also act as a speed limiter if you get going fast enough, which is too fast for me in a truck. However, the bama programer doesn't have to disable the rev limiter, it can also change it. Say it's set at 6200 rpms, the bama can change to 6500 rpms. Still keep your engine safe, but give you a little more lead way. "Heck yeah", the 4.0 cammer motors will rev!!!!!!!!!!
Don't hafta touch the rev-limiter. It has no effect on the speed unless you are going to redline the motor. My guess is that's probably about 120 or so... The ECU cuts the motor at 92mph regardless of the RPM. My truck is a 4 cylinder, 6500 is plenty.
