I just picked up an 88 B2000 for my son to learn how to drive with.
He will be using it until he gets out of high school and maybe graduate to a Mustang - if he is good.
I may just paint the rusted stock wheels or replace them when I replace the tires.
What is the bolt circle on the truck - 6 on ?
The truck seems to be running pretty good, so I may just work on the cosmetics and replace the shocks.
Anybody have experience with this truck?
one plus - it is an extra cab - There are not that many around from this era.
Also I got it from the original owner.
The first thing to do is, Replace the timing chain. Those motors have an atomatic tensioner for the chain. It will allow, up to 11/16 runout. When it reaches that point, the chain will skip, and good by valves. Other than that, very good motor, and easy to work on.
Oh, one other thing. Pay close attention to the L/S frame rail behind the door. They rot from the inside out.
Hi there is no timing chain in that motor theres a timing belt.... I would change it if you never did .. and take a look were at the chassi right behind the cab were it starts going up thay do rust out from the inside out .. also being its and ET cab.. look at the hanger bearing .. on the drive shaft, the rubber .. gets dry rotted and thay fall apart .. other than that there great trucks .. i have and had lots of them .. (low riders) well hope I can be a help to you .. Jesse
