Ok, several months ago I used some extra Mercon SP I had sitting in my garage to replace fluid in my power steering because I had the possibly mistaken idea it might be better. So, maybe a learned diesel person can tell me if its ok or should I go and buy some Mercon V and change it out again. I have experienced NO problems at all but I don't want any either.

You should be fine. But I am not 100 percent sure.
