Finally got done with my 302-460 conversion. Hooray!! The engine is a stock 460 from a 77 Lincoln with the air pumps removed. The engine is timed as recommended and I am using 87 octane. I have a hestitation in the engine when I accelerate hard Do I need to retime using hi-octane gas, get rid of the vacuum advance or what? Any help is appreciated. I also want to thank everyone who gave helpful advice on the engine swap. Except for the hesitation problem the truck is running sweet.
Hello bohica! Glad to hear your project is doing ok. As for you problem I would suggest to first look at you carburetor. It sounds like it might be the accelerator pump not working. With engine off take off the air cleaner and look down the carb. Pump the throttle and check to see if any gas squirts down the throat. It should be a good squirt like a squirt gun, not weak. If not then you need to replace the diaphragm. Comes in a rebuild kit. If you do see gas then I'm not sure as to what else it might be. But this is what I would first be looking at. Good luck.
I may have found half of the problem. When I hit the throttle I get a good squirt of fuel on th driver side of the primary, but no fuel at all on the other side. Should I be getting fuel on both sides? If so then how can I fix the other side? The carb is about a year old with not many miles on it <1000. The carb is a motorcraft 4 bbl.

I have the opposite situation... I get fuel squirting from the passenger side jet, not the driver's! I just rebuilt the carb, but I guess not all the crap dissolved in the passage when I soaked the carb... I might pull the top half off and try to clean it with some type of wire... The hesitation was worse before, but I adjusted the accel pump stroke to pump more fuel into the one good side, and that made a world of difference for temporary.

Ford started it; Ford will finish it!
When I rebuilt the carb I took a small wire and cleaned both jets. The pass side had a small piece of dirt in it. The truck runs great now. Thanks for all of the advice. This forum really helps.
