My rear U-joint is bad, this seems to be hard to search or not covered or I'm screwing up the search, but, where can I gett good U-joints and not the run of the mill junk. Are the ones from Napa any good? Is there an online store that sells Spicer?
yes sir and get greased every oil change..there is 3 u joints and the center bareaing..the bearing was 32 bucks....i marked my shaft.. took it to napa.. and for 50 more bucks..they re did the whole shaft..that center bearing was well worth the extra 50 to have them do it..

OH, hell, I'll check w/Napa and see if they offer that service here. That would be well worth it. I definitely want the whole shaft done, I'm not pulling it for one joint, 167,000 miles, they all need done the way I see it.
I don't think the Napa's by me do that kind of service. I have done mahy U-Joints before, but that double CV joint (T-Case Side) kind of bothers me because it has a spring in it and don't really know what to expect. As for purchasing the U-Joints I went to O'Reily Auto Parts and got the Heavy Duty ones for about $15 each and yes, they do have the grease zerks.
my bearing was bad...i figured the same thing as you..not much more $$ to do the whole shaft..then its all new..i marked the shaft just to make sure they put it back right..
I just dropped off at a mech. buddy, $115 labor, have at it!! I told him to put in good quality U-joints. Normally I wouldn't let anyone work on my truck, but I trust this guy and he doesn't have to lay on a stone driveway in 25degrees to do the job
ron01sd, is there a spring in between the U-Joints on the T-Case side of the driveshaft? I have heard that you need to have a press to get those two back together! What did you do?
i only have one u-joint at my driveshaft. so no spring. i'v replaced u-joints in shafts with setups like that and myself i've not had to use a press just a BFH and a bench vise. those double u-joints are alittle harder to put together only because at that point on the shaft your holding two u-joints not just one.
Well, I garauntee I would be laying on my back, on the rocks, in 25degree weather for alot longer than 1 hour, just to get the driveshaft out maybe one hour. That's if all goes well, then there is 3 universals to deal with and a carrier bearing, so this is a little more than one hour, 2 universal job. For $100 it's not even worth me getting under there.
