Hi everyone. Got my 52 down to the frame. I want to remove the leafs to clean up and paint. Having trouble removing pins. I have removed the pinch bolt and pin will not move. Any tricks out there?
Are you able to access the holes in the frame with a long punch from the inside of the frame ok? Mine were stuck but a big cross peen and a long punch worked for me.
Thanks so far for the tips. I got one out so far. I took another look and removed the grease fitting. Found a metric bolt that was close to the same thread and installed it in the grease fitting hole. Then took my vise grips with my slid hammer attachment that threads into the adjusting screw hole into the end of the vise grips and clamped them on to bolt, heated and beat on it for about 10 minutes as it slowly came out. 3 more to go. LMC sells the bushings and pins for $80 is there any other places that have them? Thanks
I got mine from Mac's Antique Auto Parts. They are closer (near Buffalo New York) than LMC so you'll save a bit on shipping.
Sounds like you were working on the front (of the rear spring) pins. there is an access hole in the frame rail that allows you to insert a punch and drive the pins out that way. However on those front pins the access hole is behind the crossmember. I drilled a hole in the crossmember, and then used a long peice of 3/8" round stock through the hole in the crossmember and the hole in the frame to pound the pins out. I tried the slide hammer trick first but I didn't have any luck with that. The holes to get at the rear pins are easy to get at with a bare frame so they are a bit easier.
