Well the shop that told me they would install the hedders now changed their minds and refuse to do the work. So I have a choice to just replace the exhaust manifold gaskets that started the whole endevor or find another shop that will install the hedders.
Who has removed their pumps and tossed the whole system and what real world effects did it have?
Can the air injection points be moved back to the y pipe or other point down stream from the headers and still function correcly?
I not really into adding to polution, I just want to get a few extra horses out of a tired 460 so I can tow my ATV. I live in Evergreen Colorado and see the effects of polution everday as I come out of the moutains and into the smog of Denver.
Off the main subject..if I forget about the hedders, what else would be the most cost effective performance upgrade I can do for under 500?
Time to find another shop. I work in a small 2 bay shop, and specialize in diagnostics. Even we do header installations from time to time. If the shop you went to doesen't feel comfortable doing a header install it is better for them to tell you than to screw up a set of headers and maybe more. I can tell you that the job looks real intimidating, but it is doeable and looks worse than it really is.
My advice is to shop around for a good exhuast shop that is confident in doing them, and get them done. Just stick to your guns, and you will find a shop that will meet your needs.
As far as pollution, let me re-assure you. If you make sure that your catalytic converter still gets an air tap supply, you have NO WORRIES!!! The extra amount of pollution generated by not pumping air into the manifolds is barely measurable. DONT WORRY ABOUT IT!!
Bottom line is, get them headers in. If you by chance get soo frustrated and fed up, and decide to put those restrictive manifolds back in, be sure to have the mating surface machined or you fill have the same leaks down the road. Also use new lock washers as the ones that came out are probably flat by now.
Either way.. good luck!

That's whats wierd about the RV's setup it doesn't have a cat. I am trying to find someone who is willing to weld on new fittings. I couldn't find anyone who sells hedders with the fittings.
