My (after market) radio was stolen tonight while shopping and I think there was some type of frame around it that the radio screws into, but I'm not sure. I'm trying to find everything that's wrong with my truck before I finalize my claim with the insurance company.
don't know about the aftermarket radios, but the factory radio is removed with U-shaped clips to reveal the plastic rim on the dash. There are 2 phillips head screws above the radio that tighten up above where the radio was installed. If I get a chance tomorrow I'll post a pic of what it looks like when the factory radio is removed. Hopefully someone already has one of these pics handy.
A picture would be great. I'm pretty sure something is missing because the installation kit for the after market radio takes two screws and I can't see any holes for them to screw into (if that makes sense).
Most single DIN (normal sized) after-market radios have a sheet metal sleeve that you mount to the plastic trim bracket that fills the hole in the dash. That plastic bracket usually contains a cubby hole to fill the extra space the factory radio consumed.
The after-market radio then slides into that sheet metal sleeve and locks it into place. The sheet metal sleeve is about the sized of a paperback novel.
I've never used screws for any of the after-market radios I've installed in an F-250 and I've installed 3 so far.
The plastic trim bracket uses the same screw holes as the factory radio. And the metal sleeve slides in the plastic trim bracket.
Let me try to make this a little easier. I'm going to re-install my factory radio. I can't see where to screw it in. I think i'm missing a part (frame or sleeve) to which the factory radio attaches. Am I missing something, or is there a removable part that the radio attaches to that could have been torn out when my radio was stolen?

I may've mis-read, sorry. Easier is definately better for me. But my factory radio has no screws whatsoever, it's a single CD, cassette combo. It just slides into the dash opening and "clicks" to lock in place once it's deep enough. To remove it you use the u-clips that F350-6 referred to.
Sorry, but I had a long day yesterday. As mentioned there are no screws in the factory radio. They use spring lock clips on the side. Here's pictures of removing mine.
what is the secret of getting it out,I bought the horse shoe gizzies and still can bring it out
Push the little u clips in until it kind of snaps into place. The first time I did it I pried out gently on the u clips and the radio just slid out. When I did it this time for the pics I had to do it about 10 times because I coulnd't get it to come out.
If you look closely in the first pic, you can see the u clips slide through the holes into a spring clip that locks the radio into place. It's just a matter of snapping the tools into place and applying slight outward pressure while pulling to get the radio past the clips.
