Casting Numbers and Oil Pans

Just had a quick question about a 460 swap before I buy an engine. What to do about a front sump oil pan? If I purchase an engine out of a car with a front sump, can I get an oil pump that will mount up and sump in the rear? Also, do I need to use a pilot bearing from a 302 or no? I know I need to use a 390 flywheel if the engine is pre '79. I am mating it with a NP 435.

Finally, where can I get a book of casting numbers for Ford engines? Thanks guys!

429/460

If you want a rear sump pan,look for a E-150 or 250.
They came with rear sump pans.

What I did was take the front sump pan and retro fit another drain plug in it at the back.
That took care of that drain pain.

Mine is a 2x4 though.

The front sump pan will fit in the truck. My 460 came from a 78 150 4x4 in the junk yard. Now its in my 79250 4x4 with the front pan. Heres the problem I have a d60 in the front and the pan barely clears the diff about an inch. It has hit already lol. But I am lifting it also so no problem. So personaly I see no problems using the front sump in a lifted 78-79 150 or250 350 4x4. I also would think it would be fine in a highboy.

The E350 vans also had the rear sump pans and rear sump pumps. (also had a nifty oil cooler...mine is still sitting in the back yard...)
