I am looking at a 90 f150, 4.9, 4peed to buy. One fuel tank
The guy said he put new fuel pump on and to get it started the pump has to run for at least 30 seconds.
When I get there it wont fire up. The fuel pump keeps running. The truck had less than 1-4 of a tank of gas. owner put 2 gallons in truck but the pump kept running.
The only thing I can figure is the pump pickup has broke off.
Or the pump cant raise the pressure high enough.
I guess it could also be a clogged fuel filter.
Does anybody have a suggestion?
Didnt have tools and manual for the 90 f series.
thanks in advance
Most likely issue is the fuel pump relay is shorted, it's located on the drivers side inner fender. When the key is turned to on(not start) the pump should run for a second or 2 and stop, and it should run continuously with the key in the start position or once the motor starts, but it'll be harder to hear. This is all controlled by the ECU, so if the relay is not shorted and there are no other wiring shorts in the pump circuit, you may have an ECU problem.
So, if I got this right.
The ECU controls the spark?
So, if I squirt some starting fluid into the air filter and IT does fire
would that mean the ECU is good?
How can the ECU be checked out?
Thanks in advance.

does it starts and idle rough? with chek engine light?
nway but mine is doing diss and its the ECU.. im looking for a new one soon..
the fuel pumps are timed by the ECU.. it does not work with pressure or anything else exept if the relay is shorted.. it will runn all the time without stopiing
i recomend you chek the relay if its not that then its your ECU
