Replacement block heater
Smoked the block heater literally.
Its installed in a freeze plug above the starter.
To replace pull the starter. Theres a hex head bolt holding it in place.
Whats the process drain the radiator and find a replacement?
How hard is it to pull the heater out is it a straight pull or a twist out?
Don't have a replacement part yet.
Any other info?
You will need to rotate the heater out of the block.
Drain as much coolant out of the engine as possible.
When the block heater comes out, there will still be coolant in the block, so expect it.
I have better results turning the mounting screw all the way out which let the flange inside the block fall off the heater.
After you get the heater out, you can pull the flange out with your fingers or a magnet.
Make sure the old O ring comes out with the block heater.
Clean the counterbore in the block before you install the new heater.
When I replace mine I put just a very small amount of blue silicone on my O ring.
And rotate the heater element to make sure it is not touching the block.
It will not go in a complete circle, but turn it up till it stops turning, then turn it down till it stops turning.
The middle of the to limits is where i locate mine.
I have changed one with out removing the starter, but it is easier if you do remove it.
Either way, do remove the battery grounds, there is to much juice on the battery cable on the starter to use metal tools close to it.
NAPA should have a heater in stock.
They are rated from 600 amps to 1500 amps.
If you go much below zero get the bigger amp heater.
