I have a 97 f250 light duty with a 5.4 valvoline full synthetic....my truck has been ticking slightly for the past couple weeks....woke up this morning started my truck and ticking was very loud....so I revved up to about 1500 still ticked revved to 3000 and ticking went away instantly....and it is hardly noticeable anymore.....I know probably wasnt the best idea to rev a little with this kind of problem but had a jeep and did the same exact thing so figured i would try.....any feedback about this problem would be appreciated ...thank you in advance
The ticking is from a few causes. The first is from no oil pressure at startup. What oil filter are you using and weight of oil? The second could be broken manifold studs.
I am using 10w30 and a k&n gold series oil filter they were on sale at advance auto so figured i would give it a try I am now leaning towards exhaust leak because it gets louder as i accelerate not so much as faster...its not a major loud tick but I can notice it thanks for your input any other ideas would be appreciated

Make sure your oil filter is one that has a check valve in it. Using a filter without one on a 5.4L will cause a tick at startup.
