sticky lifter???

I have a 97 f250 light duty with a 5.4 valvoline full synthetic....my truck has been ticking slightly for the past couple weeks....woke up this morning started my truck and ticking was very loud....so I revved up to about 1500 still ticked revved to 3000 and ticking went away instantly....and it is hardly noticeable anymore.....I know probably wasnt the best idea to rev a little with this kind of problem but had a jeep and did the same exact thing so figured i would try.....any feedback about this problem would be appreciated ...thank you in advance

Check all the spark plugs ASAP and then look for exhaust leaks. If it only does it when the engine is cold and always goes away when it is about half warmed up or better then it is most likely piston slap.

You don't have lifters, so its probably an exhaust leak, they are pretty common on these motors. Piston slap is a lot more than a ticking.

True there are no lifters per say, but there are cam followers which serve the same purpose. they can bleed down and cause the tik. Exhaust and plugs should be checked first. The passenger side ex is first suspect. The bolts are a tad small to support the exhausts and so break off. The 4th possibility would be the cam chain tensioner. Since all tend to sound very similar, a little investigation is worthwhile.
