Ticking 2002

The ticking sounds like an exhaust leak... at idle, it's quiet, but under power and when it's under 3rd gear it has a ticking sound. Once it starts building minifold pressure the ticking clears up entirely. I'm thinking about doing the ceramic up pipes, and, if I have to re-seal my manifolds, maybee the ceramic mani's...

How much is it for all new stainless hardware and gaskets?

How many people have had problems with exhaust leaks at the minifold?

i have a mild up pipe leak that i have been ignoring for 5 months now. i know i need to fix it and hope to soon, but i have heard horror stories aboiut replacing. if you do replace your up pipes geet the ones with the bellows so you dont have to do it again, that's what i have heard anyway.

Did you have a ticking noise with your up pipe leak, because I know I've had an up pipe leak for over a year. probably more.....

You wouldn't believe how much the leaking pipes hurt your mileage and power. I did the ceramic bellowed pipes and i couldn't be happier with them. Getting them out is the hard part, but a die grinder with a cut off wheel makes life SO MUCH easier.

Well, I think at this point I'm just trying to figure out where the ticking is coming from... here's some more info on it...

It only does it when its freshly hot.

Also with my setup... do you think I will have too high of egt's?

I have a 6637, muffler delete, 10k, and an 80 horse superchips that is probably only doing about 60-65 horse. (yes, I want to switch to a dp tuner... just need the money, and justification)

The up pipes will be the ceramic coated bellows, and I'm thinking if I do do those, I'll strip all the intake off to clean it up, de foil, and do a ccv mod. Am I going to start throwing an over boost code?

Edit: Does anyone have experience with a leak at the manifold?

i would say check the EBPS tube... when that gets a pin hole ...it ticks...if the motor is cold enough..you may need to start it and run you hand up and down it to feel it..

Sneak, the fustification comes after you install the DP-TUNER. Then you will know why we grin so much.

Lol, no, I know, I'm just trying to get all my ducks in a row before I DP it at this point. I'd like to not need to repair it after I install the DP tuner. I'll have Pat, yes at the stealership, take a look at it after work on tuesday.

Just so you guys know, I work at a fairly knowledgeable FORD dealer... about 85-90% of the work done is on the FORD DIESELS... and yes, they still need to be informed about some of the things that we know are wrong, but I'm trying to get all the diesel mechanics on this forum so they'll hopefully learn a thing or two.

EDIT: Hey Ron, you have the same name as our service advisor!

I was thinking of taking my EBP tube and sensor off for cleaning or replacement, think I'll just R&R it.

Both manifolds leak, and the up pipes are shot... it will cost ~1177 for the parts just for the exhaust part of things. and while I'm at it, I might as well hit some other mods, and clean things up...(ccv, clean boots, cross feed, and hpx) so it'll be a little while before I have the cash to make it happen.

The price is for ceramic coated manifolds, and up pipes...

EDIT: Oh yeah, may as well replace the ebps tube while I'm at it

Wow, the Manifolds can be found on ebay for $50 a side, get them resurfaced at a machine shop for $40 or so. The up pipes are $350 at the IH dealer, ceramic coating on all the parts for $150 more and that's not dealer item there. Only get the insides ceramic coating. The outside coated will hold heat and that's not what you want. Someone could do the whole damn job for that, including labor!

Does it sounds like it would be just one cyclinder? My 99 ticks like yours, but seems to go away when i use bio diesel at about 3 - 5% mix.. I think it is coming from my #8 injector.. even though mine has been replaced by a long lead injector..
