I need some help from you guys who know your trucks! I just bought my new ford 150 fx4 in dec/ of 07. this last Tuesday i brought my truck into the ford shop to have it serviced for the first time. two days later i am driving down a town road and i start hearing a ticking sound coming from the engine. when i would slow down the ticking would slow down, when i would speed up the ticking would also speed up, and when i was idol it would be making about two ticks a sec/. i put it in park and push on the gas and when it revved up the ticking to would speed up(considerably).. i turned it off and started it back up and it was gone.. i thought ok problem solved. <O</O
then yesterday night i was driving and it did it again i turned it off turned it back on and it stopped again for about an hour then started up again i opened the hood and it sounded like it was coming from the front part of the engine. i turned it back off because i was back home for the night. then this morning i drove it around all day trying to get it to tick before the shop closed and i wouldn’t do it(typical luck for me). i went into the shop and tried to explain it to the mechanic and he thought i must be hearing things. now i am no engine expert but i know what its supposed to sound like. im sorry for the length of the post but i tried to give every detail i could think of. if you need something answerd to help figure it out. i will try my best to answer it!
do you have any ideas what this could be off the top of your head? any advise would be really appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks alot Jeff Smith..

I can't remember what ford did for repairs. But there is a TSB for this problem. My truck would sound like a deisel on start up. I think it was something to do with the cam and valves. My truck is a 2004 fx4 scab. Took over 6 hours to do.
All good now.
Take it into the dealer, there was a manufacturing defect on some component that causes play in the crank. If that is what the problem is they will be changing your motor, hopefully its just some stupid little thing but I wouldnt take a chance. This issue only affects a range of engines built in 2007.
i did go to the dealer ship today and they said either im hearing thing(yea right) or its the the cam phasers which they said is normal to tick. didnt they fix that problem a few years ago. also thanks a ton for posting the link. i sure hope thats not what it is but i dont know. like i said its not all the time right now. i am going to get a video of it next time it does it. do any of you think it might help you diagnose it? anfo now you got me worried!!lol i sure as hell nope thats not it
There are a million things in these engines that can cause a ticking sound but if it does turn out to be the problems at least you have a paper trail with a dealer so they cant somehow blame it back on you if there is a catastofic failure in the future. I dont even own one of these newer trucks and reading the thread gave me chills, good luck, hope its just injector tick or something trivial. Let us know what is was when its all figured out.
will do anfo. but i think i going to have to have another shop take a look at it because the ford dealer ship in town doesnt seem to want to give it the time of day. go figure.. like i said ill get a video of it i post it if i can figure it out how. then let you guys try and figure it out as well. thanks and any other info that might cause this please let me know!!
My '06 Expy engine is ticky as well and I got the same brush off from the dealer. Service guy tried to tell me its probably just pebble in the engine!?! Dip*****. Funny thing is this dealership is literally right across the street from where I work, Johnson Space Center. You'd think these guys would learn giving a response usually reserved for soccer moms and old ladies doesn't work here. I just stared at him like he had a third eyeball, then asked how the hell a pebble was suppose to get "stuck" in an engine and make a brand new car sound like ticking time bomb. He just shrugged and then said its what the tech told him. Needless to say that dealership closed down and I've still got a ticky SUV.
When you don't get results from one Ford Dealership's service department, try a different one. No 2 Ford dealership service departments are the same...... some, unfortunately are staffed by unmotivated, ill-informed personnel. Keep trying, you'll find one eventually.
I found the TSB. tsb 06-19-8, this is the tsb that was done on my truck. It was in the shop for three days. The service advisor thought i was going to get a new engine. But the engine was repaired. A couple more tsb's that may apply to your vehicle are. tsb 05-18-8. And tsb 04-24-24. The parts were lash adjusters and vct phaser kit. Mention this tsb's to your ford dealer.
TSB stands for Technical Service Bulletin.... you can look them up on this site by those numbers when you click on the Recall/TSB tab. they tell you of known problems with the vehicles, and what is needed to cure the issues. its good to bring the TSB number with you to a stealership, since they sometimes dont want to fix what needs fixing.
