I have been having continual fuel gauge problems for about 20,000 miles. The fuel gauge just drops to zero, no matter what is in the tank, totally random. I have had it in three times to 2 different local Ford dealers, still no fix. They gave me 2 bottles of Techron, kind of helped for a while, and recently replaced the tank sensor (I think that is what they replaced). Still no go, it is frustrating and a real problem, you always have to have the trip odometer current, sometimes it will read empty for long periods.
I don't think there are any recalls or bulletins out on this, but I find it hard to believe I am the only person dealing with this. I want it fixed, and don't want to pay another $50 co-pay (I have an extended warranty to 75Kmiles, with 68,000 currently on my '03).
Mine did that for awhile but it was just after I filled it, wouldn't move for a couple days then it'd jump up to the proper level. No longer does that though and it quit on its own
idling wont make it do what it's doing... true that it takes longer to read FULL after a fillup when idling, but it won't make it drop to zero during a trip...
