This CPS recall thing?

Had my truck in to the dealer this week for some warrenty work. Picked it up yesterday and they said they replaced the CPS also because of this recall, BECAUSE it was a black one. I told them I had replaced it last summer and knew it was good BUT could give them a "failed" one to send in. They said that it was a "black" one, (on the truck) and all of these would be replaced with the "gray" ones.

Here comes the sticking point. I bought the one that was on the truck untill yesterday last January 07 from an IH dealer for $115 AND I'd swear that it was a gray one because when I changed it out, the color difference caught my eye.(now I could wrong, maybe colorblind, but don't think so). My question is would it be possible that a "grey" CPS was available last Jan 07? Wonder if I got screwed by the dealer yesterday and either they didn't change it out(and told me they did) or did a perfectly good "gray" one get discarded? If this is so, I have a the failed "black" one that I kept that could have been sent in place of the "gray" one and I would in turn have a perfectly good "gray" one for a spare. What do you guys think happened?

If no "gray" ones were available back in Jan 07, then I feel that I was treated ok yesterday.

I replaced mine last year some time too. I paid close to $200 for mine from the dealer, (since my truck was dead and they were the only one around that had it in stock).

Does anyone know if Ford will reimburse me for the part? I'll eat my labor. LOL

Did they call you prior to doing the recall work? Just because there's a recall doesn't give them the right to make modifications to YOUR truck without consulting you. Since the part that they removed wasn't the original OEM CPS, but rather one you'd spent your money on they should give it back to you. If they need one send back to Ford it should be the original one which you have to give them. They need to be reminded that the truck is your property and they have taken your property without your permission. If they want to be idiots about it threaten to call the police and report the part stolen. I know I've read several threads about members who've had "unauthorized" work performed on thier trucks like having the PCM reflashed because the dealership seems to feel they have a right. I'm glad when Ford actually steps up to the plate and admits they have a faulty part and agrees to replace it or correct coding issues with the PCM, but any changes to OUR trucks still requires OUR permission. If they can't give you back your $115 dollar part because it's been sent back or whatever make them give you a new "back up" CPS. Considering that part only sell for about $30 they'd probably only be out about $5. The soapbox is free if anyone else wants it.

dieseloholic....no they did not call me on the CPS change out. In fact I had forgot about it till I went to pick it up. Had read about the recall in the paper last December and would have thought I would have gotten a recall card by now. Might be a delay as I'm second owner of this truck. Anyway, kinda sounds like the January 07 purchase was a black one so whats done, is done. Maybe now with the "new and improved" grey one, won't need to carry a spare! Thanks guys.
