Somewhat noisy 4x4?

Just got over some snow a couple of weeks ago, the big nasty storm that came thru around New Years specifically. Anyhow, first time I really had to use 4 wheel drive to actually get anywhere. But I noticed there was some gear noise when engaged in 4 wheel drive. It wasn't distracting or anything. I'm just making sure I don't have upcoming issues.

A little added noise is normal. I get a little "gear mesh" type noise on mine. Check the fluid levels in the transfer case and front diff, just to be sure. Otherwise, it doesn't sound like you're describing anything too unusual.

That's PRECISELY what I get, the 'gear mesh' type noise. Yeah, i checked the fluids in both the diffs, transfer case and tranny and all are up and good, 'cept the transmission needs a flushing soon.

I guess that covers it. Thanks Joe!

Nothing wrong with some gear mesh noise. It's just letting you know it's engaged and working for you.
