Well thanks to a certain unnamed company.. I have a damaged piston.. The are of the piston that is scored is out of the Pad area but still damage none the less.. Looks like I just need to replace them.. So my questions are..
1) Should I use Ford OEM Calipers? or get Aftermarket Ones.. If I do which should I get?
2) Whats the process in replacing a caliper? Is it as simple as disconnect the line and hooking up the new one, doing a bleed through to get all air out?
I don't know if you are doing front or rear, but I just replace my rear calipers for $159 (for the pair). These were reman from NAPA. The left rear had one piston stuck. I always replace calipers in pairs, if the one went the other wouldn't be far behind. But that's me.
I did take my other calipers off and did not have to pay a core charge. You can do this with 5/16th bolts and a couple flat washers. Unhook the brake line and close it off with the bolt and washers. Be sure to bleed it good after you put it all back together.
It's the Front by the way.. So I need the best considering it makes up for majority of the braking for this big bertha.. I'll end up doing them in pairs anyways..
Storm, I replaced my front and rear calipers about six months before putting on the new pads and rotors, and yes it is that easy. I used oem. They seem to be working just fine. Although I have heard of problems with the slide pins. Not sure what years, but there was a fix.
