Ok, I'll try to run this down.
For the six months or so I have had this Bronco (89 5.0 auto) I have an engine light issue.
KOEO test showed a code 14 (PIP). I replaced distributor cause that was cheaper than replacing the PIP sensor, new module, plug wires, plugs.
The light seems to come on instead of when gassing but when I let out of it like coming to a stop.
I'm thinking it is a loose wire or connector, why because it is very wet here right now and I know moister can do strange things including completing connections
but this is really getting annoying.
No I have not replaced the cap and rotor.
Please Help
Dave
Dave, the code 14 is "intermittent loss of PIP signal", with emphasis on the 'intermittent'. You're probably right in it being a loose or corroded connector. I'd look at the distributor connectors, and then at the main connector at the ECM for corrosion.I've also heard of the 'loss of PIP' being caused by a bad connector at the crank position sensor, or a bad CPS itself. Just passing that along for what it's worth, but maybe check that one too.....
I just remembered with you saying about the connector at the distributor that the locking clip is broken but seemed to be tight. I guess I could run a wire tie around it to keep it tight.
So then there is no real sensor and the wirng for that is contained in wiring for the ignition module in which case it being a code 14 and intermittent problem it could very well be the connector at the ignition module.
Dave
This engine uses the distributor stator as the crankshaft position sensor.
OK thanks Antony25, I wasn't sure.
Dave, yes it could be the loose connector. Try a zip tie to hold it together and see what that does.
Have you noticed any unusual tach readings? Sometimes a loss of PIP signal will make the tach erratic.
On mine, after thowing many new parts at it, my intermittent dying was caused by poor ground on the fender next to the batter. Then I got a PIP code and replacing the new rebuilt distributor fixed it.
pull the alt and have it tested, make sure the wiring is good there as well. also check the plug that sits directly below/front of the coil. occasionaly i have seen these wires get messed up and can cause problems. when you installed the new dizzy did you also install a new TFI module?
Yes I did put new Module on but I know that doesn't
mean anything. I am getting ready to pull the alt. back off
and (A) have it checked and then (B) have it replaced.
I will check the other connector at the same time.
Thanks
Dave
I've already done the swap.
Got the single wire harness from RJM Injection Tech, followed there install directons along with charge cable upgrade to 2ga. cable and breaker.
You can find all this at...http://www.fordfuelinjection.com
Went to Auto Zone this afternoon and talked to the girl I bought it from
acted a little pissed and they upgraded it to the top of the line new one for 10 bucks.
I pick it up tomorrow.

Were you refering to the connector that goes into the coil? Below the wire going to the cap.
Checked that one when I put the MSD coil on.
Here's another question...Is the weep hole on the water pump really suppose to weep?
Dave
One more What is the reason for the 3 wires being wrapped in foil?
