I have a set of Hella 500 and I have the relay connected up and ready to go but I have just one question. It is setup so the lights only will work when the High Beams are on, but what would be the easiest way to run my wire from the switch to the highbeams.
I wanted to use a fuse tap to pull the power out of the fuse block instead of cutting into the actual high beam wires, but on my 2000 F-250 it seems the fuse #16 (in the inside cab fuse box) is supplying the high beams and the instrument cluster (according to my owners manual). So if the instrument cluster is running off the same fuse as the high beams would I still be able to have the lights only come on when the high beams are activated or would it end up messin up the lights ?
You got them on relay which pulls power from the Battery and sends it to the lights when the relay is trigger.. Take the trigger wire of the relay and tap the High Beam wire on the Light Socket.. You don't need to run a wire all the way into the cab for that.. Just pull one of the bulb plugs, stick an LED Light Probe in it, have someone turn the Highs on until you find the wire.. I think it's the farthest wire towards the D/S fender on 9007.. Middle is ground..
Storm I might just run the wire off the hi beam wire (light green w/ black stripe) at the socket but I was thinking of putting a switch in with the setup too. so I can still somewhat control the lights when the brights are on.
1) would I be better off just running without a switch or with?
2) if i did put a switch would fuse #16 work even though it has part of the instrument cluster attached to it?
If you put a switch on it then you'll need to put a reverse diode in so the current doesn't go back to the switch.. That's more of a headache.. As for the Fuse, I don't think so.. It would give power to the lights all the time..
yeah the more i have been thinking about it, the more I like the idea of not having a switch. No need anymore to cut a whole in my dash to install a switch and any time I'm off roading and I need light i'll have the brights on anyways.
I Had a pair of hella 500 rounds on my truck. I put the 100 watt bulbs in em OMG are they bright...Where and how much did they cost> I need another set.
I also have the same Hella 500's. I just wired mine striaght from the the fuse box to a switch I installed in the dash to the lights and grounded to the frame. They work with the truck running or not. hasn't failed me yet.
