I was searching threads on this site trying to find the location of the keyless entry code for my newly acquired 03 Excursion. I absolutely cannot find the little white sticker with 5 numbers anywhere under the driver's dash. Can anyone give me a cllue as to where under the drivers side (if that is the correct place to look) this might be located?
Talking via phone with my local dealer, he sez that if the keypad is recessed into the door panel, then it is factory installed and they can get the code out of the on board computer sytem (for $50!!!). He also said that if the keypad is on top of the door panel surface (as mine is), it is dealer installed and I get to buy a new system as the code is not retrieveable. Does this make sense?
sometimes the code is on a sticker in the door jam or hatch area. They have also been known to be up under the dash by the emergency brake area. I was not that lucky and found mine behind the dash behind closer to the fire wall. It is difficult to find in my opinion but can be done easier by removing the radio and putting a flashlight in the radio cavity, remove bottom dash fuse panel and lay on your back and try to look up at the firewall area behind the radio. I still had a hard time because my sticker was upside down and very crooked. I had also used a mecanics mirror which was only 5 bucks and that came in very handy. I put the mirror up there and could see it pretty good. Most important thing is to have patience if your in a hurry give up now!!!If you get into a bind and still cant find it let me know and I may still have my detailed directions filed somewhere. Dan

The next time you take your rig into the dealer for some work ask him nicely;"Oh,and by the way, could you please pull my door code for me" and if he persists in telling you it's gonna cost, just tell him that you'll be taking your business elsewhere.. The first time I took mine in for a LOF,I asked him and when I picked it up,the code was written on the invoice and the price was exactly what I had been quoted BEFORE I asked him...

This is how I got my code also. I was getting a new turbo, sensors and computers.
Looks like there are a few ways to locate the code. VASheriff posted a couple of good ways. The way I found it might work also. If you have a "bag hook" on the lower dash, smack in the middle, then read on. I removed the bag hook, 2 screws, then slid out the cupholder that is right above it. When I slid out the cupholder I could gaze to the left and and slightly up. On the firewall was the black box with a white sticker on it, showing the code. Good Luck.
I finally got it!! Thanks to all that replied. I found the correct plastic box by putting my head near the gas peddle and looking almost straight up, slightly toward the radio. My controler box was black in color and had the label with the code on the surface that faces the driver's door. Of course, the mirror shows the number upside down and backward. My number sequence was all 8's, 1's and 9's. OF course if the nines looked like sixes in the mirror. Anyway, I only took me four trys to get the key pad working.....doh! My biggest problem was determining which of the many plastic boxes under the dash was the correct one to wiggle around with a mirror. My hint to those who have to do this search is that the box is almost directly behind that strorage cubby hole on the dash, the one below and slighty to the left of radio. Once you find the correct box, getting the mirror up to it and reading the code was fairly easy.
