A question, is this a regular amount of weight you are looking to tow? Or is this a one time move and you happen to have your 150 with a fifth wheel hitch available to do the job?
If this were a one time thing, and you already were equipped with a fifth wheel hitch, I would say go for it and take it easy and be as safe as you can considering.
If this is you regular load to haul, I would definately say look into a different truck.
If we're talking 5th wheel, the trailer weight is basically the same, but with two footnotes: (1) "Reduce GCWR and Maximum Trailer Weight by 500 lbs on models with optional 18" or 20" wheels; and (2) "While F-150 SuperCrew (138.5" Wb) and SuperCab (132.5" Wb) 5-1/2' box will accept a fifth-wheel hitch, current fifth-wheel trailer designs are not compatible with these models."
Ratio is not the same as rear end The transmission is a different HD model. Are you really trying to tell me you have the same transmission with a V10 and a 4.6L V8?
Now that raises an interesting question regarding the new 5.4 V-8 with the turbo option. I wonder if they throw a V-10 transmission on it...... Very curious.
How is the automatic trans different ?
The axle I agree with but it can have the same ratio.
The Super Dutys use the TorqueShift tranny, and the half tons use a smaller one. Even if the axle ratios are the same, the half ton axle is still smaller than a one ton, and the size of the axle affects the ability to tow a 10500 lb load.
The 5.4 and 6.8 gassers on the SDs should use the same tranny, which is differnt from the half ton 5.4 tranny. Yes same engine, not same transmission, axle, driveshaft, brakes, ect.
