There should be a spring set that came with the regulator to adjust the fuel pressure from whatever your pumps are putting out down to about 6 psi, which is what I run. I take it you are doing a 302 conversion in a Ranger or something similar? First off you put the proper spring into the regulator (can't remember which, been like 3 years) then hook it up to the carb with a inline fuel pressure guage, then dial the adjusting nut on top of the regulator down to about 6, or whater you wish to run. If the spring you put into the reg is too small it will not allow you to dial down the pressure low enough. I have a Mallory fuel pressure reg, is that what you have too?

yea, im runnin a mallory too, but it only came with one spring and they said it comes pre set from the factory at 3 psi. with it backed out all the way it was still at 15. replaced the high pressure pump with a holley red, but now the in tank pumps wont pump and the holley cant suck fuel that far....still isnt running. thanks for the input though

The in tank pumps won't pump? Do you mean you have them unhooked, or they just aren't working? If you (carefully) unhook the fuel line from the gas tank before the fuel filter and before the high pressure pump the in tank pump should pump gas out on it's own, if not, suspect a faulty pump. When you got your Mallory, did you ask for an adjustable one? I did, and the spring that came in it (which was recommended for 15 psi) was waaay too soft, so I put on of the heavier ones in and dialed it down to 6 psi. Works like a champ. I was (and still am) worried about runnin both fuel pumps with so little back pressure (EFI system required like 50), but they are holdin up so far...
