Been having problems with my 5.4. 31k on it. now the gasket on the right(of course) is really geting bad. engine makes constant fluttering as i accelerate and decelerate. for those who happen to have this bad engine (not all of them are bad), and got a new engine replacement. now ive read in the past its the right alum. maninfold being shaved incorreclty causing the head gasket to blow. fords tsb on it is 01122. metal shavings get in the engine. either u have the prob or u dont. most guys get new engines. my questions is this: if it is a new engine.. what year is it so i dont get the same prob in the future. truck is to new to have so many problems with it. be nice to put the new northland editon in it.. heard it has more power. better yet the dohc. if they dont give me a new engine i have no choice but to dump it. replacing the gasket does not solve the problem and im not pay 1800 bucks to have it done after warrenty. i believe ford and my dealership will take care of me. after all i will be going through more trucks and dont want to drive a chevy. ill keep u posted. truck going in next week. another pain.. have to rent a vehicle, ,,, takes time and cost me money...
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-Feb-02 AT 00:11 AM (EST)]week and half later. got truck back today. was driving a 2002 dodge ream quad cab. it was nice. bigger interior (front) and bigger brakes and still has 6 foot bed. anyway, the first rod went, they dont know why, maybe oil pump. so they but a new "rebuilt" engine in it. told them about the hard shifting so they erased the computer and reloaded it with new software. shifts are to be tighter and what ever else is new in the software. havent driven yet on the open road. cant wait to break it open. mechanic said no break in period needed. oh and when they dropped it in,, the idle was off,, timing adjusted one tooth. ive read similar issues in that here. :7
Been driving my truck. engine sounded differently at first. man does the new engine and new software rocks. so much tighter and the engine just purrs up and down. if it had wings it fly. when i punch it it throws u in ur seat and feels like she wants to do wheelies.
in the first text i was incorrect in saying manifold (engine illiterate but learning) i was able to talk to my mechanic two times at length at look at the engine. learned alot. it was not the gasket that caused the problem he thought. just that first rod not getting oil. and he hasnt seen that often. i beleive the rebuilts are better and have 24k to test it.
