My 99' F150 4x4 has been making a noise up front while moving, that I just got to the bottom of. It has 91K miles and the front hubs (both sides) are bad. You can feel a flat spot when you turn them by hand. The other strange, or maybe not strange thing is, both wheel speed sensors are shot. ABS light has been on since I bought the truck a month ago. Has anyone else experienced this? Seems odd, but both are wide open (no resistance). My kid and I took one of the sensors apart and there must be a mile of wire on that thing. It was also loaded with oil on the inside. Maybe that caused the premature failures. Or maybe it was the heat from the bad bearings. Who knows, but the fixes are not cheap.
The parts are $620.00 + shipping, via one of the web dealers. Local they want $770.00. After market was hgher than both above. I've heard of folks fixing their front hubs, but I'm not sure it is worth my time. Reguardless, anyone with any similar experiences, I'd be interested in hearing from you.
