I think you are right about the difference between the two because I have read about others that have had to cut the bottom and I always think why mine went in fine and I have read where others have said they did not need to cut. I will have to pay attention and see what year they changed it. It my be right after 2000 my other truck was a 99.5.
Dose anyone know if the bottom is plain flat or if it has some sort of step down or crazy bumpy crap. Also, does anyone want to donate an AFE for me to measure up I do promise to send it back when I am done. I should hit up Hdiesel in Frankland, maybe they will borrow me one.
I just went to the local junk yard and picked up a used steel battery tray. Simple bolt in to replace the plastic factory battery tray-airbox combo. This was on my 2000. Easy to replace for resale.
That's strange, I just removed my airfilter box and left the battery tray, I didn't cut anything. I even arranged the 6637 so the front of it set in a 'ridge' in the battery tray so it's kinda held there.
Funny you guys mentioning the airbox thing cause I've been thinking of doing something too. Mostly just to seperate the hot air from the cold. I already did the zoodad and I would do the fender. But I figured by looking at the AFE I'd do something like that, get about an inch away from the hood and use a piece of rubber to seal against the hood. It would be allot easier if I had AFE to copy the contour though.
And then there is the big issue, time.
I just had to 4 bolt to take the lower half of the air box out. The rest of the plastic around the battery stayed, didn't even remove it during the mod. there is still the stock vent to the gill. I could just bolt everything back together if I wanted. I was goint to save it all, if I sell the truck and the next owner wants it stock (for some reason). MIne is a 2000

Mine was the same way, 4 bolts and in the attick for justincase.
If I had an AFE to measure, I could draw it up in autocad and post the file somehow so any member could print it actual size and make a template. Time is an issue for me to figure out how make a box from scratch too.
i made a templet for the AFE stageII and sent out to another member..not sure what became of it..but it was made with poster board so it could be taped together and be test fitted in before one was built for the 6637...
about the filter..pete made me one for my AFE progaurd 7 filter..it works and looks real good..i need to straiten it out a little on the end i noticed..sorry Pete...
