My buddy just bought a 1998 7.3l F250 and the passenger window won't roll up. They are power and you can hear the motor spinning. Is there a plastic gear in there like on the Rangers? I did a search and didn't find anything. Thanks in advance
OK now I can help. I used to have an '88.
My drivers side motor went out in mine. First thing I would do is pop off the panel and look around and roll the window up and down. If the arms and window regulator don't move you have a bad motor/gears. In order to get it off you have to remove 3 bolts. One or two of them you can get to with just a socket and extension. The other one or two you will have to drill a hole in the door big enough to get the socket in there. Don't worry Ford already put dimples right where you need to drill so It is easy.
Once you get the motor out you can separate the gears from the motor if the motor is good and go to Autozone. If the motor is bad also don't even separate them as you will have to buy the whole setup. Get this I have p/n's and prices.
Motor with gearset $54.99 p/n: 742251
Gears set only $19.00 p/n:WL33000
This is from AutoZone. Double check with your autozone or parts store to be sure the motor has the gears already on it. It should.
not sure if metric or sae so have both ready.to get the panel off there are 4-5 screws along bottom of panel remove them. Remove the screwthat is in the door pull and I think there is one near front of door. Basically remove all screws around edge of door. You won't need to remove the one that holds the window and door locks though. After that get a LARGE flathead screwdriver or a prybar or small crowbar. Very delicately slide it behind panel and pop the fasteners out of the door there are a few near back of door and I think some near middle of panel. It works best if you pop one out at a time and get the screwdriver or prybar as close to the fastener as possible before you pry it out. After that you will need to either remove the door lock or push it down. Then pull the door opening handle up and slide panel up at the same time to get it off of the top of the door. Just unplug the wires and there you are.
Now you will need to remove that plastic coating. I peel it back so I can reinstall it but I have seen some people just cut it off. I don't recommend that.
Now you can check for what I mentioned earlier. You will have to temporarily plug the panel in to see if the hardware inside goes up and down then remove to get it out of your way.
