460 vs. 454

Does anyone have a source for a year by year torque and horsepower comparo between this offbrand bigblock and a 460? ..I'm not thinking about buying anything... just need it for "debate" purposes! Thanks.

460 vs. 454

Get a big chilton's book. The one that covers all American Models. Theylist them in the specs pages of each manufacturer. They ususally cover about a 5 year span.

460 vs. 454

FWIW, the Doug Thorley web site has some HP and torque curves for the mid-90s Chevy 454 and Ford 460, comparing stock engines to ones using their headers.

There's the Ford 460 graph:

And the Chevy 454 graph:

460 vs. 454

HeadHunter

I've hotrodded both engines and just by the seat of my pants, I'd have to say my present 460 (472) beats the 454. My 57 Chebby Tudor had a built-to-the-gills L-88 that I built with a 5:13 rear and Muncie close ratio -- used to have fun making it jump over coke bottles when dropping the hammer, so it had a "little" bit of o-o-o-m-p-h to it.

I'll have to say the 460 screams like a bat out of U-no-where.... and just about scares me!!....

460 vs. 454

Here is the lowdown on the 77 model year.

454 245hp/365torque 8.25:1 compression

460 237hp/365torque 8.0:1 compression

440 195hp/320torque 8.20:1 compression

The 460 gets worse in 79

460 214hp/362torque still 8.0:1 compression

The moral of the story is; the 454 has 8 more hp but the torque is equal. The 440 Nopar isn't even close.
