It all depends on how deep your pockets are and what you need the motor to do. I would port/polish everything put a girdle in it and head studs. Then custom everything else, pistons rods cam HPOP etc. Then again you will easily put 10 -15 grand in it before you know it.

What do you want out of the motor?

I want more out of it but still want it to be dependable and not blowin up no more. Just make it beter than it was. I sent the block off bc that one cylinder got scratched. I was looking into overhaul kits. I think we are guna go with Diesel Direct and get there kit. The block is guna be bored over to the pistons, and its going to be oringed. We are getting a new low preassure oil pump and already got a 17* hpop for it. As for the cam I think mine is ok and I havent realy found a cam that does much for the street drivein truck only more for sled pulling and dont think I want that on the street. My turbo seems fine so Im guna leave that on there for now. Im sending my injectors off to Jim Rose and have him work on them for me. I was told that not to use ARP studs use A1's I think but I am going to stud the engine. My fuel system im not sure what Im guna do yet. We are guna port and polish the manifolds tho and do a valve job on the heads. There is so much that can be done but I dont want a race truck that breaks just a dependable race truck!! Lol.

I agree there is soo much that CAN be done. i believe I would go the route you are going if it were mine.

You can either oring the block or the heads or you can fire ring it. Oringing is where there is just little stainless wire that is machined either on to the heads or block. Just helps out the head gaskets. Fire ringing is mostly done on sled pulling trucks and envolve usually a copper head gasket and it doesnt do to well on a street truck.

On boreing it I just want to bore it enough to get rid of the blemishes in the cylinder wall. Probably like 20 over. I beleive there only pistons made for 40 over so I dont want to exceed it enough to where if it has to be done again I can. There is plenty of room though in the block for boreing way over.

On the headers I herd they do and they drop the EGT's around 250 300 degrees. But I believe they are way out there on price.

Oh I know what you are talking about now with the o-ring. I have seen that before but I have never rebuilt one of these yet. Hopefully that bore willl give you enough to be faster than the average bear eh' boo boo. Good luck.

really headers on a diesel... never herd... do you know anywhere that sells them? i wont get them, im just curius about them, interesting\

thats the one thing i really have never seen for these engines, i mean you can find power addons all day with turbos and injectors and whatnot, but ive never really found a anywhere that sells the whole nine yards... cams/rods/lifters/pushrods/rockers or anything else of that nature

These are for a 1999-2003 but they do make them for our trucks.

Not quite as pricey as I thought they would be.
