Hi Guys,
I just received my wiring upgrade for the headlights on my 99 PSD.
However, no installation instructions came with the upgrade. I sent an e-mail to GOS Performance asking for instructions. In the meantime, have any of you installed this upgrade? Did you receive an instruction sheet? How long to install? Any problems with the installation? and finally, How do you like the upgrade? Did you notice a difference? Thanks in advance for any input.
Jeff
I installed this a year or so ago - took about 30 minutes. Yes, I noticed a difference in light output.
As I recall, you unplug the existing wiring from the bulbs and plug the harness into that. Then you add power from the battery and connect the ground (I just unscrewed a fender screw). The harness routing from side to side went across the top of the radiator. Seems there were instructions on their website.
The company sells both and it is my understanding that you can use both at the same time.
You can if you want to run the risk of melting the plugs. I did order one and installed it but had a couple of questions after the install so I gave them a call. They said they do not reccomend using this upgrade with a Brite Box. They said they will take the harness that I bought back though so everything is cool.
I have no idea what a "bright box" is, but HIDs draw *LESS* current than halogens. Mine are 35W each, standard bulbs are 60-100W, IIRC. So anything built to handle higher current will run HIDs easily. Think of HIDs as being like those new low wattage bulbs for around the house that put out as much (or more) light than regular 60W bulbs. In fact, I've had a 19W 6500K bulb over my desk for years -- WAY more light than a 40 or 60W bulb it replaced. Same exact concept.
A Brite Box allows the high beams, the low beams and the fogs to all operate at the same time. I would imagine it would work fine with HID lights. I was looking for HIDs but couldn't find any for a 9007 headlight application. Also not sure If I want to spend 200 bucks on light bulbs.
