Stock Shortbeds?
What is the reason why "shortbed" pick-ups are so much harder to find than the longbed's? Is it because they were not provided by Ford to the dealers as "Stock" items. Is there any way I can find out how many shortbed trucks were actually manufactured by Ford in any given year?

I have a shortbed supercab, too. You do not see near as many shortbeds as you do longbeds. I would guess the reason to be that more people used trucks for work in 79 than they did for leisure and they needed the extra bed space.

just a guess, but i think the reason for so few shortbeds, as compared to long beds, is that people didnt always choose the styleside bed, many opted for the flareside. another contributing factor is that no short bed specific parts are available. so if they are rotted out alot of people scrap them. just my $0.03(inflation)

Many people bought trucks in the 70s and used them for what they where meant for hauling and towing so they wanted long beds i think dealers just choose to order longbeds more than short
