For performance most people use the full vacuum source.

I have 750 edel. man. choke.I bought from you guys and was wondering which way to hook up the vac.Full advance vac. on the driver side of carb or hook it up to the other port the passenger side of carb. I want as much power and snap as I can off the line and up. It's on a 78 460 with goodies
What are the pros and cons of each.Thank you

THE RIGHT VACUUM: One way among many to get into trouble when attatching all the various hose, cables and plug ends is to hook the vacuum advanve to the wrong vacuum source. If they want full advance at idle the vacuum mechanism must be hooked to full manifold vacuum, as found at any port below the carb throttle plates. Spark-ported vacuum comes from ports immediately above the throttle plates. It will supply vacuum spark advance as soon as you begin to open the throttle, but there is no advance at idle or at any other time when the throttle is closed. This was originally done to prevent detonation caused by lean emission mixtures and was later used for a variety of emissions functions such as EGR control.
Retarded timing can cause overheating, so make certain you are taking spark vacuum from the correct port for your application. An older non-emission vehicles or modded hi-po vehicles, full manifold vacuum will yield a smoother idle and better performance. On emission controled cars, you must use the spark-ported vacuum to remain legal and get the best possible performance. And if your car is equipped with a EGR, by all means leave it hooked up. By passing the EGR will cause yuor late model car to lose performance, not gain it. I found this and just thought I would post it for others who have old iron like me and want everything they can out of it.
