Hey guys! So up until 3 days ago I have been a big Chevy fan. I'm currently in the market for a truck and my cousin who is the diehard Ford fan tells me to go drive a super duty. So I found one down the street and took it for a drive. It was a F350 Super Duty 6.0 powerstroke. Needless to say i loved it!! So I started looking online and find an 05 F250 Powerstroke in my price range that is a Regency custom conversion truck. It's a BEAST! But then I start reading about all these problems that the 6.0 had/has. This truck has 85,905 miles on it and "looks" as though it has been babied. I know the OASIS report is one thing I need to look into but I have a few other questions. For one this truck has a lift kit on it. Is this a good thing or bad thing in the long run? I'm new to the diesel world so any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm not really looking to haul anything in this truck...I'm looking in to diesel for the longevity and roominess in the cab (I have been driving a 01 Firebird for the last 7 years and my *** is hurting!!). I live in Tennessee and it rarely gets below 40 here in the winters. Thanks in advance!
If you do a search for 'build' one of the threads lists the changes/corrections from one year model to t he next...it may be listed in the Tech Folder at the top of the thread, but I found it by Searching. The 'commonized' motors w/all the revisions have a 1/11/2006+ build date if not mistaken (may be off a day or two?). The 06 and 07s seem to have most of the bugs worked out and are very nice imo...nice flat torque curve w/power everywhere and a very nice interior and awesome ride. I believe they made a front suspension upgrade in '05 as well which allows tighter turning radius(others will know better).
Just take your time and shop around, when I was shopping this past year I noticed the used car market seems to be flooded w/Super Dutys. Check out the build date updates/corrections and shop accordingly. We took our time and found a fully loaded '06 FX4 Crew Cab w/Alpine Nav system/DVD player and Bluetooth w/tow package and HD alternator....had only 4,300 miles on it w/100k warranty, we got it for mid 30s. Same dealer had lifted used 250s loaded down to the teeth w/all Accufab parts/shocks, etc for only a grand more or so than a used stocker. But that's just a money-pit waiting to be opend up imo. Take your time and do a lot of searching here for the info you need, I'm sure you'll find one you really like for the money.
Those two sites I used quite often. I did find the Tech folder on here and it was pretty helpful from what I have read so far. Anybody have first hand experience with an 05? I have read alot about 03 and 04 but not alot of bad things about 05 for some reason.
I have an 05, so far so good. Nice truck, rides and stops better than my buddies 03. No problems (knock on wood) other than needing a computer reflash with a new strategy. I would think '05's would be mostly problem free motor wise, since they had 03 + 04 to sort out issues, but that by no means is a guarantee. 05's being one year older might provide a better deal$$, and you could always use that $$ to purchase the 7yr 200k ESP. That's what I'm did/doing.
Well that's really good to know. That 7 year thing sounds liek it might be worth the extra money just to be on the safe side. I really like this truck so i'm researching the hell out of everything so I know if I do decide to buy it that i won't hate myself later for it. So is it true or false that the engine breaks in around 100k? If so it seems this truck is still practically new.
