Drop Gas tank

Theres a rust hole in near top of my gas tank, in my 1995 bronco 5.8L auto. i have the 33 gallon, what is the size of the fuel sending unit hole? and how hard is it to drop the tank? Im pretty sure im replacing it with a plastic tank so it doesnt happen again.

Well, the fuel pump is fine, i just need a new tank. and there are like 4 different sizes of holes for the fuel sending unit. Thats the only problem, I have dropped tanks in other trucks its usually pretty straight foward, and easy. I was just seein how hard the bronco is.

Pretty easy to drop it from what I hear. No major trickery involved.

I think you misunderstood what kem was saying about the fuel pump. Go out and hold a fuel pump in your hands for your year and measure it so you know how big the opening is in your tank.

My tank is held in by the skidplate, and the bolts are the hardest items to deal with. Hit/spray them with a penetrating oil the day before and you will be okay.
Make sure you have an extra set of hands to handle the "empty" tank when you drop the tank from the bronc.

I know that, my uppers were okay. Getting the skidplate off is the toughest part of the job.

The bolts go through an insert that does not like the harsh under carriage elements. I can imagine how hard it is to break loose if the truck is in snow/ice/salt country.

The bolts have so much crud on them it takes some good torque to get off.
(1/2 drive tools or impact maybe needed).

I just dropped my tank on my '88 and it wasn't too bad of a job. Maybe an hour's worth of cursing but that's about it. 8 bolts (15mm nut and a 13mm bolt head), the fuel/electrical connections, plus the fill tube is really all it was. I pulled my tank pump and it looked like it dipped in asphalt. The tank is pretty nasty inside and I was wondering how much a new tank would cost. Any one have an idea? I was thinking of getting this one cleaned but I have no clue how close a hole is from rusting out on the inside and I don't think it's worth the chance.
