Upfitter switch question

So I went to hook use my number 4 switch to do the high idle mod with no sucess. So after testing all the upfitter switches I found out #4 has no power to it. Where doI go from here. Could it be one of the fuses behind the glove box. If so do I have to go to ford to get a new one.
Thanks

I never could understand those fuses or whatever they are behind the glove box. I know one of the manuals says they are back there, but I sure as heck couldn't figure out how to get at them.

I had the same problem you're having, no power so the switch. Look in the manual and see which fuse in the panel on the drivers side is for #4 and check that. That was my problem.
Any if anyone else can explain those fuses behind the glove box, please do!!

i don't know about the fuses behing the glove box but i do know that the upfitter switches and relays are only plugged into the fuse panel on the drivers side. go to your truck manual and it will tell you witch fuse is for the upfitter#4. if that is not the problem then start checking for power at the rest. if number three has power it can be used for the high idle mod. 1 & 2 are 30amp and 3 & 4 are 10 amp. that will atleast get you the mod. after that i would check the relays for the upfitter switches, they are located above the passenger side glove box bolted upside down. remove the glove box and then look inside and up, you will see them labeled 1,2,3,4. the wireing harnes goes directly from here to the drivers side fuse panel with a pigtail that plugs into the back of the upfitter switches. you should be able to follow the harness from there. hope this helps you.

I checked the relays behind the glove box by swapping the 3 and 4 relay. All good. As far as the fuses I thought there was only one fuse for all the upfitter switches, fuse #115. So basically there is a loss of power between the relay box and the orange with light blue wire. I have no idea????

There is a separate fuse for each upfitter switch in the underdash fuse panel:

Upfitter switch #1 - position #108 - 30amp
Upfitter switch #2 - position #109 - 30amp
Upfitter switch #3 - position #3 - 10amp
Upfitter switch #4 - position #5 - 10amp

The Relays are behind the glovebox

Are you sure that you have the right wire for the upfitter switch? I ran into that problem when trying to hook up upfitter #4 to my rear view camera. There are two wires with the correct colors that are under the dash. One is in a bunch of wires that are easily accessible and can be seen just by looking under the dash along with a bunch of other blunt cut wires near the brake pedal, they are not the upfitter switch wires. To get at the upfitter switch wire it is easiest to drop the fuse panel and then you will see the 4 blunt cut wires (the only 4 in that group) behind the fuse panel. It is very easy to mix up, and Ford should have made those wires a different color, or made the upfitter wires easier to find (they are very hard to see until you drop the fuse panel, then they pretty much jump out and bite you).

How about hooking up the #4 switch so it is hot when key is off? Ideas?

There is a simple way to make all the upfitter switches work without the key on. You need to find the relay that feeds the switches, pull it out and put a jumper wire on two of the terminals in the socket.

But I'm not sure which relay it is.
