Need to re-attach rear view mirror

Got to the dog park this afternoon, let the dogs out the back, closed the rear hatch and watched my rear view mirror fall off the windshield. What is the proper adhesive to re-attach the mirror to the windshield? Would contact cement work? Thanks.

There's a special adhesive that you'll need to use. Virtually all auto parts stores sell it. You may want to clean off the old adhesive first.

Dog park? What - do you tie them up to little doggie parking meters or something?? ? ? (-:

If you go to your local parts store,,they sell a glue specifically for fixing rear view mirrors. It comes in a little kit.
Don't remember what it's called.

You can stop by a shop that replaces windshields to get it fixed. I've had two fixed on other vehicles. The Windshield Shop didn't charge me either time and it was fixed in less than 5 minutes. I just tipped the guy 5 bucks.

I tried using the store bought adhesive, but it didn't work well for me.

Good luck.

Don't forget to mark on the outside of the windshield where it goes B4 you clean off the old glue. Otherwise you may put it back in a different place.

I've tried the replacement stuff they sell and it does fall off again, After replacing mine twice, a friend told me to use JB weld, 2 part mix. It never fell off again.

Yah, I'll tape or something around the original spot.

I have to take the mirror button off my former Bronco, and installed the new one with the stuff the auto parts sell. It's a two part dealie with adhesive and a promoter/cleaner.

Anyhow...I put the mirror back on using the above mentioned glue many times with never a problem. You need to clean the inside of the window and make sure all of the old adhesive is gone or you will not have a good bond. A single edge razor blade will help to get it all off. Follow the directions and you should be good.

I read that rhe Permatex stuff is what they use in the factories.

not that it really matters, but if you do decide to use something like JB weld, make sure it looks pretty from the back, because you'll see it all the time through the windshield.

I know thats stupid, but I've done similar stuff. I put a bumper sticker on my rear glass before I realized I'd be looking at its backside of it ever time i looked in the rearview mirror and i put the darn thing on just crooked enough to but me too...
